Assignment 03
1.1 List two (2) strategies for effective communication with learners as outlined in the study
guide. (2)
1. Use clear and simple language
Teachers should speak in words that learners can understand. This helps learners follow the lesson
and stay focused (Killen, 2015).
2. Encourage active listening
Teachers should give learners time to ask questions and share their ideas. This makes learners feel
involved and improves understanding (Brown & Atkins, 2016).

1.2 Identify three (3) ground rules for effective communication with parents. (3)
1. Be respectful
Teachers should always speak politely to parents, even when there are problems. Respect builds
trust (Killen, 2015).
2. Be honest and clear
Teachers must share the truth about the learner’s progress in simple and clear words (Brown &
Atkins, 2016).
3. Listen carefully
Teachers should give parents time to talk and listen to their concerns. This shows care and
understanding (Department of Basic Education [DBE], 2011).

1.3 Explain why face-to-face communication is considered effective when communicating with
learners.
Face-to-face communication is effective with learners because it allows teachers to use eye contact,
body language, and tone of voice to make the message clear. Learners can ask questions immediately
and get quick answers. It also helps build a good relationship between teachers and learners, which
makes learning easier (Killen, 2015; Brown & Atkins, 2016
