Question 1: Addressing Bullying in Primary School

1.1 Malebo Primary School identifies instances of bullying through learner reports to
teachers, school counsellors, and an anonymous online reporting system (Department
of Basic Education, 2012).

1.2 Learners can report bullying by speaking to teachers or school counsellors, or by
using an anonymous online platform set up by the school (Department of Basic
Education, 2012).

1.3 The school communicates anti-bullying policies during school assemblies, through
newsletters, its website, and during classroom discussions and parent orientation
sessions (Department of Basic Education, 2012).

1.4 Awareness efforts include hosting guest speakers, workshops, awareness
campaigns, and character education programmes throughout the academic year
(Department of Basic Education, 2012).

1.5 Intervention strategies include peer mediation, counselling services, structured
disciplinary systems, and support for victims through a buddy system (Department of
Basic Education, 2012).

1.6 Teachers and staff are trained annually to recognise signs of bullying and use
effective intervention strategies. The training also helps foster an inclusive classroom
environment (Department of Basic Education, 2012).

1.7 Victims of bullying receive immediate counselling and are connected with peers
through a buddy system to ensure emotional support (Department of Basic Education,
2012).
