Topic: Healthy Eating and Nutrition
Context:
This lesson is part of the Life Skills curriculum and aims to educate Grade 3 learners on
the importance of healthy eating habits and nutrition. It supports the development of
foundational knowledge about food groups, the benefits of each group, and the
principles of a balanced diet. At this age, learners are able to identify common foods
and relate them to how they feel (e.g., tiredness when skipping meals or energy after
eating fruit). This lesson will be practical, visual, and engaging to accommodate their
developmental stage. The topic promotes health awareness and supports learners’
physical and emotional development.
1.2 Learning Objectives (10 marks)
By the end of this lesson, learners should be able to:
1. Name and identify the five main food groups: carbohydrates, proteins, fruits &
vegetables, dairy, and fats.
2. Describe one main function of each food group (e.g., energy, muscle-building,
growth).
3. Sort a list or set of 10 food items into their correct food groups.
