ASSIGNMENT 3 2025

SECTION A: Reflection (15 marks)

Length: ~380 words
Topic: Reflection on Unit 4 and Small Things

Before starting this module, I occasionally read novels, but not regularly. One novel I
thoroughly enjoyed was The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Its exploration of
friendship, guilt, and redemption deeply moved me. I was especially drawn to the
emotional complexity of the characters and the vivid setting of Afghanistan and
America. In contrast, I attempted to read Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad but
found it very difficult to enjoy. The dense writing style and unclear narrative made it hard
to follow, and I struggled to connect with the characters.

Reflecting on Unit 4 of the Study Guide, I found the section on how to interpret

but confusing. The narrator's thoughts flow in a stream-of-consciousness style, which
was not easy to follow. However, as I read further, I began to appreciate the emotional
depth and philosophical reflections. I found the narrator’s deep yearning and heartbreak
compelling. My favourite character was the narrator himself because of his vulnerability
and introspective nature. He is relatable in his struggle with unrequited love. My least
