Title of the Activity: “My Dream House: Building with Recyclables”
Grade Level: Grade 5
Duration: 30 minutes
Learning Area: Creative Arts – Visual Arts
CAPS Alignment: Promotes exploration of form and construction using three-
dimensional materials; encourages environmental awareness, creativity, and visual-
spatial thinking.
Overview of the Activity:
This Visual Arts activity encourages Grade 5 learners to explore the concept of home
and architectural design through creative construction using recyclable materials. It
is designed to be cost-effective and inclusive, making use of everyday waste items
such as cereal boxes, cardboard tubes, tin cans, egg cartons, plastic bottle caps, and
newspaper.
The activity serves multiple purposes:
Encouraging creative thinking and problem-solving
Enhancing fine motor skills
Developing awareness of environmental sustainability
Fostering personal expression through artistic interpretation of the concept of
"home"
Lesson Structure:
1. Introduction (5 minutes)
The teacher begins with a brief, engaging discussion about recycling and the role of
