well-managed classroom provides clear expectations, consistent routines, and
mutual respect between the teacher and learners. This ensures that learners remain
focused and on-task, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning space (Coetzee et
al., 2019:39).

Classroom management is critical because it forms the foundation for effective
teaching and learning. Without it, the learning environment becomes chaotic,
resulting in reduced learner concentration and poor academic performance. Effective
classroom management minimises behavioural disruptions and enables smooth
lesson delivery. It allows the teacher to use time efficiently, focus on content delivery,
and cater to the needs of diverse learners. Additionally, it promotes a respectful and
safe space where learners feel valued and are encouraged to participate actively in
the learning process (Coetzee et al., 2019:40).

One approach is the assertive approach, where the teacher sets clear expectations
and consistently reinforces rules. Learners understand boundaries and feel secure,
fostering respect and discipline. Another is the success approach, which focuses
on enabling learners to experience achievement. Teachers provide opportunities for
success to build learners’ confidence and positive self-concepts. Both approaches
encourage desired behaviours while supporting emotional development and
