Question 1
1.1 Explanation of Geometry for Intermediate Phase Learners (10)
Geometry is the part of mathematics that deals with shapes, sizes, and the space things
take up. I would explain to my learners that geometry helps us understand the world
around us by looking at how things are shaped and how they fit together.
Practical activities:
Building with blocks: Learners can use building blocks to make houses and
towers. They will identify squares, rectangles, and triangles in their models.
Nature walk: Learners go outside and look for different shapes in nature, such
as round stones (circles), square bricks, or triangular road signs.
Drawing their room: Learners draw their bedroom using simple shapes to
represent their bed, table, windows, and door.
1.2 Historical Use of Geometry (16)
1.2.1 Problems Egyptians and Babylonians Solved Using Practical Geometry (6)
Land measurement: Egyptians used geometry to re-measure farmlands after
the Nile River flooded.
Building structures: Both Egyptians and Babylonians used geometric
knowledge to build pyramids, temples, and walls.
