1.1 Differentiate between mathematical concepts and mathematical skills, with
examples
Mathematical concepts are the big ideas or understandings about math that children
build in their minds. These are like the "what" of math – for example, the idea of
numbers, shapes, or patterns. An example of a mathematical concept is the idea of
“more” and “less” — when a child understands that having 5 apples is more than
having 3 apples.
Mathematical skills, on the other hand, are the things children can do with math. These
are the abilities or actions like counting, measuring, or sorting. For example, the skill of
counting objects one by one to find out how many toys they have is a mathematical
skill.
1.2 Define the following terms and give two examples each
1.2.1 Number sense
Number sense means understanding numbers and how they work in everyday life. It’s
the ability to recognize numbers, compare quantities, and use numbers in practical
ways.
Examples:
Knowing that 7 is more than 5.
Recognizing the number 10 when seeing it on a page or a sign.

Patterns are repeated designs or sequences that we can find in numbers, shapes,
