Assignment 2 2025

DUE 2 June 2025

, QUESTION 1: DRAMA

(Total: 20 marks)

1.1 Identify four features from the excerpt and discuss each feature with evidence
from the text.

(12 marks – 3 marks per feature)

1. Dialogue
Dialogue is a critical feature in drama, used to develop characters, build tension, and
advance the plot. It is the actual speech of characters and is essential in shaping the
dramatic experience.

Evidence from text:
TROLL: “Is the stable clean?”
LEIF: “Tight and tidy!”

In this exchange, the Troll questions Leif about the completion of a task, and Leif
responds confidently. This interaction builds the conflict as the Troll becomes
suspicious, which moves the story forward. Dialogue here also reveals Leif’s attitude —
he is proud and quick to answer, even though he may have had help. The Troll’s
suspicion following the dialogue further develops the plot and foreshadows
consequences.

2. Characterisation
Characterisation is the way in which a character’s personality and traits are revealed to
the audience through their actions, speech, and what others say about them.

Evidence from text:
NARRATOR 2: “But he never wanted to listen to anyone, and he always had to do
things his own way.”
