1. Objectives of National Nutrition Week
The main objectives of National Nutrition Week are to raise awareness about the importance
of making healthy food choices and to promote healthy eating habits across South Africa.
The campaign also aims to educate the public about the relationship between diet and non-
communicable diseases, reduce the prevalence of obesity and malnutrition, and encourage
the consumption of fresh vegetables and traditional, affordable, and nutritious foods. It

Five major contributing factors to food insecurity in rural areas include:
