1. One thing I found really interesting about the theoretical material (and why)
Theoretical lense three was interesting to me since it gives light on the history of South Africa
and my own roots. The post colonial era has shaped my country and my life, and I believe more
attention should be given to such topics. Especially if we want a better understanding of
ourselves and the communities around us. The concept of ‘decoloniality’ is intriguing and makes
one wonder if we will ever be successful in discarding the social and psychological
consequences of colonialism.
2. One thing I disagree with or that I think could have been explained more fully
It is true that globalisation resulted in an increase in traveling to various countries. However, I
would not say that the reason was to be “amused” by other exotic cultures. To a certain degree, I
believe that people are curious about each other and even intrigued by different cultures.
However, many other factors gave rise to an increase in traveling. Some reasons can include
trading, art, self- discovery, religion and war.
3. My suggestions for improving the theoretical lenses part of the module
I enjoyed the conversational style of writing as well as the information being split into short
sections.
I would suggest incorporating some visuals into the writing to make the lenses more engaging. I
also would have liked to see more information on communities that exist in south Africa.
