, 1. Introduction to the case of “Jon”

The context of assessment for the given scenario is career counselling within the work
industry. The organizational context includes 3 categories (Foxcroft & Roodt, 2013). The
categories are as follows, the measure of individual psychological attributes, assessment of
work teams and assessment of organization. In this assessment attention is based on
individual psychological assessment, which involves measures that are used for selection and
placement in order to estimate one’s future performance based on each of the criterion above
(Foxcroft & Roodt, 2013).

Jon has just enrolled for a diploma in administrative work and needs career counselling to
ensure he made the right choice regarding his future. The person-environment fit approach
will be used to determine if Jon is fit for a job in administration. This approach includes
testing intelligence, aptitude, interest, values and personality. The scores obtained from the
test administrated will be interpreted and will help determine whether Jon has made the right
choice and whether he will experience job satisfaction.

decisions” ( (Foxcroft & Roodt, 2013). Jon is a Zulu-speaking student who attended school in
rural Kwazulu-Natal. It is safe to assume that Jon is from the Zulu culture. Rural areas in
South Africa do not necessarily provide the same opportunities and services that can be found
in cities, such as career counselling that are usually offered in schools that are not located in
rural areas. Since Jon grew up in a rural area, which could result in Jon having a lower
earning potential, poorer health and hampered learning abilities (Farber, 2017). “The
definition of “rural” for present purposes will be that of remote places away from amenities
such as shops, tarred roads, and street lights” (Carelse, 2018). Jon has enrolled for a diploma
in administration, it is not stated where Jon enrolled for this diploma. He is in need of career
counselling since he presumably did not receive it at the school he attended; he would like to
