Tiaan en Zane was in die musiek klas, omdat Tiaan ‘n brief vir die musiek
onderwyser – Mnr Marx – moes gaan aflewer van die afrikaanse juffrou –

Juffrou Pienaar. (Hulle is glo ‘n item). Zane sit lipstick (Revlon Passion Fruit) vir
‘n Mozart standbeeld in die musiek klas aan. Mnr Marx stap in en betrap hulle,
hy vra hulle om hom na skool in sy klas te kom sien.
Tiaan and Zane were in the music class. They were here because Tiaan was
asked to deliver a letter to the music teacher – Mr Marx – by the Afrikaans
teacher- Miss Pienaar. (It is a school legend that they are dating). Zane applies
lipstick (Revlon Passion Fruit) to a Mozart statue in the music class. Mr Marx
walks in on them while Zane is holding the statue. He asks the boys to see him
in his class after school.
Chapter 2 – Orkesoefening
Tiaan en Zane is al van graad 3 af vriende. Die seuns vind Mnr Marx in die klas
saam met die orkes. Hy vra hulle of hulle weet wat postmodernisme is. Liezl
Kritzinger – die mooiste en slimste meisie in die graad - steek haar hand op en
antwoord hom. Sy verduidelik dat dit ‘n soort reaksie op modernisme is, dit
lewer kometaar op ouer kuns. Hulle se hulle hou van rockmusiek, mnr Marx
verras hulle en vra hulle watter soort rockmusiek. Frik van Tonder sê dat Tiaan
en Zane ‘n band het. Hulle sê 2 verskilende name (Bosvark en Hardeskyf), almal
lag. Mnr Marx vertel hulle van ‘n rockkompetiese vir skole-bands; Remoer. Hy
vra of hulle belang stel.
Tiaan and Zane have been friends since grade 3. The boys find Mr Marx in his
class with the school’s orchestra. Mr Marx asks them what postmodernism is.
Liezl Kritzinger – the prettiest and smartest girl in the grade – raises her hand
and answeres him. Sy explains it’s a reaction on modernism, it comments on
older art. They say they like rock music, they are shocked when Mr Marx wants
to know what type and lists different types. They did not think that music
teachers know any music other than classical music. Frik van Tonder says that
Tiaan and Zane have a band. They say 2 different names (Bosvark and
Hardeskyf) when asked for the name of the band, everyone laughs. Mr Marx
tells them about a rock competition for school bands; Remoer. He asks if they
are interested in participating.
Chapter 3 – Pause. Rewind
Tiaan hou van musiek, maar nie die tipe goed wat jy in die skool leer nie. Hy
het van musiek op laerskool gehou, maar opgehou om dit te neem as ‘n vak.

Tiaan en Zane speel al vir omtrent ‘n jaar saam. Hulle het nog nooit ‘n gig
gespeel nie, omdat hule nie ‘n sanger of trommer het nie.
Tiaan likes music, but not the type that you get taught in school. He took music
in primary school, but gave it up. Tiaan and Zane have been playing together
for a little over a year. They have never played a gig, because they don’t have a
drummer or vocalist.
Chapter 4 – Play
Zane vetel Mnr Marx dat hulle ‘n trommer en sanger benodig. Iemand vra of
hulle al oudisies gehou het. Zane se hulle het nog nie. Zane vra of hulle
Donderdagmiddag die musiek kamer kan gebruik vir oudisies. Dit is bevestig en
afgekonding aan die skool orkes.
Zane tells Mr Marx that they need a drummer and vocalist. Someone asks if
they have ever held auditions. Zane says that have not held auditions yet. Zane
asks if they can hold auditions on Thursday afternoon in the music room next to
Mr Marx’s class. It is confirmed and announced to the orchestra.
Chapter 5 – Selfportret
Tiaan probeer ‘n foto van homself met ‘n digtale kamera neem, hy kry dit nie
reg nie. Zane kom in, hulle praat oor die dag. Zane sê hy is opgewonde oor die
oudisies en dat Liezl vir hom geglimlag het. Tiaan sê dat sy nie vir hom
geglimlag het nie, sy het hom uitgelag.
Tiaan tries to take a photo of himself, but fails. Zane walks into Tiaan’s room,
they talk about the day. Tiaan is embarrassed. Zane says he is excited about
the audition and that Liezl smiled at him. Tiaan says that she did not smile at
him, she was laughing at him.
Chapter 6 – Kennisgewing
Zane het kennisgewings gemaak vir die oudisies op A4 papiere. Daar is ‘n
spelfout op die plakaat, hy het oudisies, “oudiesies” gespel. Tiaan is ontsteld,
omdat Zane nie sy toestemming gevra het nie. Zane is opgewonde, maar wil dit
nie erken nie.
Zane made posters for the auditions on A4 papers. There is a spelling error on
the posters. Tiaan is upset, because Zane did not ask his opinion. Zane is
excited, but doesn’t want to admit it.
