South Africa's Strategies


1. Legislative Measures:


o Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA) 121 of 1998: This act provides

measures to combat organised crime, money laundering, and criminal gang

activities. It allows for asset forfeiture and the prosecution of individuals involved

in organised crime.


o Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA) 38 of 2001: This act aims to combat

money laundering and financing of terrorism by establishing the Financial

Intelligence Centre, which monitors and investigates suspicious financial

activities.


2. Law Enforcement Agencies:


o Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) - Hawks: This unit focuses

on combating serious organized crime, including drug trafficking, human

trafficking, and corruption.
