Introduction:
The Black Power Movement (BPM) succeeded in encouraging ideas of
black pride and self-reliance among African Americans to a large extent.
Malcolm X encouraged African Americans to work for themselves and the
black community to become more self-reliant and Stokely Carmichael
coined the ideas ‘black pride’ and ‘black power’ to make African
Americans more confident and assertive in pursuit of their rights.
