Torque
● Placement of a force matters
○ Because some forces can cause an object to rotate
○ linear(translational) motion and rotational motion
● When a force is exerted on an object, which is free to move about a point (usually
fixed at that point) the object will rotate
Fulcrum: the point about which an object turns or is supported(pivot point)
Torque: the tendency of a force to cause rotation(rotates about fulcrum) NOT A FORCE
Example: door
● Force at hinge-> nothing happen.
No torque/tendency to rotate
● Force in middle-> rotate. Is torque
● Force at end-> also rotate. More torque(theta is 90)
1.Any force acting at the fulcrum does NO torque
2.tendency= attempt at moving .˙. It is the same as the Rotational acceleration
3.Moment arm=lever arm
