Briefly describe the visual merchandising techniques use by your group in planning,
designing and setting up the display.
One of the merchandising techniques that we had when we designed and set up the display is that
we used posters in the store in the display windows so that it would catch customer’s eyes and they
would find them interesting, they then may be drawn into the store to find out more.

Another technique that we used successfully was the point of sale material that we would put by the
tills so that customers would have to go past them to pay and would encourage them to another
sale. We said that we would put sale and discounted CDs at the tills in bins so that when customers
are paying the cheap prices would catch their eyes and they would end up looking through the bins
to see if there was anything that they liked.

As well as that, we had another visual merchandising technique which was having a price list set so
that all of the customers would know the price of the products in store and then they would know
how much they could spend and their budget.

We placed all of the new releases and the CDs that sold at the best at the front of our store, this is a
good technique too use as it would mean that people would be drawn into the store if they saw the
new release that they wanted and then would end up going through the store and buy more CD’s.

In your opinion what were the three key strengths of your group’s visual merchandising
techniques used overall for planning, designing and settings up the display (give reasons
for your answers)
One of the key strengths that we had as a group would be that we presented a PowerPoint which
included a lot of detailed information about the business that we were setting up, such as health and
safety of our customers internal and external, and other things such as the location that we would
set up. This was a strength as we presented clearly so that everyone would know the plans for the
store.

A second key strength of our group’s visual merchandising techniques would be the floor plan that
we had produced. I would say that this was a strength as it included everything that we would have
needed, such as the layout, what the store would have in it and how we used the space effectively.

A final strength that we had as a group was that we had excellent communication between
everyone. When it came to designing our store and planning it we all had an input into the ideas,
meaning that everybody felt like they were a part of the group and nobody ideas weren’t took into
account. We were able to assign tasks as a group so that everybody knew what part they would be
helping with and we made sure that everybody from the group was given the job that they felt most
comfortable with and that they felt like they would do well in, this ensured that everybody was
happy and that our store would be designed the best way possible.
