● Probability = number of ways it can occur / total possible outcomes
● Notation = p(AUB) p(A’) p(A)
● Complementary events = p(A) and p(A’)
● Mutually exclusive = p(AnB) = 0
● Exhaustive = when they fill the sample space
The fundamental Counting Principle
● Write down information then decide what to do
● Eg; a four-course meal, 2 starters, 4 main courses, 3 di erent deserts,
2 co ees; thus 48 di erent options
● This is the use of multiplication
● m1 x m2 x m3 x m4 …
● Another way to see it is if all the m’s are the same then you can do
● M to the power of options
