A. MAIN INSTRUCTIONS

1. You MUST peruse all your learning resources BEFORE attempting this
assignment.
2. Read the CENTRAL SCENARIO below in conjunction with the scenarios
presented in each question before answering the questions.
3. The assignment consists of 4 long questions. Answer all the questions.
4. Question 1 requires you to watch the 4 video lessons and interact on the discussion
forums on myUnisa and then paste the “screenshots of your interactions in this
assignment.
5. The technical presentation of your assignment is of the utmost importance. This
aspect of your work contributes 10% of your assignment mark. See the instructions
on technical presentation in Section B below.

B. LEARNING OUTCOMES

Outcome 1
Students are sensitive to the importance of communication in accounting practice.

Assessment criteria:
o Barriers in communication are identified and discounted in accounting communication
situations.
o Sensitivity is shown for differences in frames of reference in accounting.

Outcome 2
Students can analyse a communication situation in a business context in terms of target
audience, purpose and content.

Assessment criteria:
o Audience analyses are done based on simulated communication situations.
o Purpose of communication is expressed clearly in well-formulated proposals.
o Messages are analysed in relevant texts in terms of the concepts, principles, theories
and rules of the relevant discipline.

Outcome 3
Students can respond appropriately when considering specific characteristics of the target
audience, the purpose and the content.

Assessment criteria:
o Reports are written showing information-gathering skills and competence for analysis
and synthesis.
o Written proposals for public presentations are compiled by using relevant subject-related
material.
o Reactions on simulated accounting communication scenarios are evaluated following
known procedures.

Outcome 4
Students can apply language appropriately in their communication activities.

Assessment criteria:
o Analysis of texts is done demonstrating implied relevant reading and listening skills.
o Proper English and unique accounting jargon are used in written texts.

C. ASSIGNMENT FORMAT

1. You must adhere to the general rules related to the overall presentation of the
assignment.
2. Your presentation should not contain language, spelling typing errors or personal
types of address (UNLESS otherwise stated).
3. Present headings and numbering (where required) in the correct format.
4. It is vital that you adhere to the CORRECT format, structure and stylistic
requirements of each piece of writing, as required by the relevant assignment
question. If you fail to follow these guidelines, you will lose marks.
5. The assignment must contain a personal declaration that the work you have
submitted is your own. If you DO NOT submit the declaration, or if it is
incomplete or not signed, you will receive 0% for your assignment.
6. The declaration has to be signed by yourself and a witness. It is a legally binding
document. As Unisa is a distance education institution, you must submit your work
online. Therefore, we accept typed signatures and e-signatures if you do not have
access to a scanner.
7. Any declaration that is not attached, that is incorrectly worded, or is
unsigned by yourself and/or a witness, will automatically receive 0%.
However, in keeping with Unisa’s Tuition and Learning Policy, you will
receive feedback.
