Picture books are an important first step in a child's reading journey because they build language

improve their comprehension skills. However picture books need to be complemented with
illustrated books for the learning of children to be effective.

book where the picture complements the text whereas a picture books is a book where the pictures
come first. However in reality the two often overlap, and words and pictures cast a combined spell.
