Assignment 1

I, the head of the correctional centre will have to ensure that the child is evaluated and cared for as
soon as the child is admitted into my correctional centre. I will start by conducting a case assessment
to determine the circumstances behind the child's incarceration and the risk factors that contributed
to the child murdering his fellow pupil. If I am not able to do expert evaluations in my capacity as the
director of the correctional facility or I do not have the adequate knowledge to address this case, I
will consult with the relevant professionals such as social workers and psychologists to conduct a
further risk assessment after admission has taken place in order to decide where the offender should
be housed. The child must not be harassed, victimised, or bullied by other inmates or staff members,
and the correctional environment must be safe, so he needs to be housed in a facility that is
separate from adult offenders. The child is under the age of 18 and will need to be placed into a
correctional facility that specializes in youth offenders. It is crucial to evaluate the danger the
offender poses to himself, others, or the concerns the offender will face at this point in the
admission process. These assessments will also highlight and identify the child’s personal needs and
requirements such as what level of schooling the child has, if the child needs anger management
classes, substance abuse programmes such as AA and support and counselling.

The child's requirements should be identified and taken into consideration while constructing an
appropriate sentence that is fit for the crime and takes his age into consideration. To ensure that the
child will be rehabilitated and return to his family, every effort should be taken to provide
rehabilitation programmes that will meet the personal issues, needs and requirements the child Is
currently facing. These programmes and requirements will be recommended by the child’s social
worker and psychologist and will keep the child occupied while serving his sentence. I will encourage
the child to participate in these programmes as well as encourage him to engage and volunteer in
any further activities. I will see to it that the child attends theses compulsory educational
programmes, has a healthy balanced diet, gets enough exercise, and partakes in sporting
programmes and any other activities. By attending these programmes and classes the child will also
develop his life skills in order for him to be rehabilitated back into society. I will also keep track of
the progress he is making in these programmes in order to determine if rehabilitation and
accountability is taking place. I will also be updating his family on the progress he will be making, and
I will also encourage them to visit on a regular basis and ask them to attend counselling services with
the child as this will encourage him to excel in his schooling programmes as well as give him the
support and guidance that he needs.
