, Chapter 1: Introduction
1.1 Research Background
The term employee turnover signifies the total number of employees who are working in
an organization and associated with it for a longer period. This includes the voluntary
and non-voluntary employees who are laid off from the organization.
As per the statement of Rasheed et al. (2020), employee turnover affects the success of
organizations or agencies. Employee turnover for workers with higher performance is
always costs that result in increasing investment of an organization. Increasing the
organization's investment aspect creates financial instability. Understanding the reason
for higher employee turnover is one of the critical conditions for the leader of an
organization. A Leader's role in identifying the cause of higher employee turnover is to
create a stability strategy and bring development to a loyal workforce. Leadership plays
a vital role in acknowledging the importance and cause of employee turnover and its
associated factors that allows reducing the influence of higher turnover of employees
over an organization (Holston-Okae and Mushi, 2018). Quantitative primary research is
followed in the study for finding the relationship between two variables that are
employee turnover and the perception of employees contributing to influence the
hospitality industry. The cause of employee turnover is elaborated in the research with
an application of Herzberg Motivation-Hygiene theory.
Higher turnover of employees is often observed to bring failure to organizations by
developing no-motivated workforces and creating non-interest or non-attractiveness in
the workplace for skilled workers. It has been researched that organizations with higher
turnovers in comparison to the competitors the tenure of employees in the hospitality
industry will then be comparatively shorter on average compared to the competitor's
organization. It was mentioned by Djajasinga et al. (2021), a higher turnover of
employees creates a situation that affects the productivity of the hospitality industry
while skilled workers leave the hospital industry and the percentage of novice workers in
the organization remains higher. Leaders in the hospitality industry require strategies as
well as policies that can help in maintaining the workforce adequately. The role of
leadership in the hospitality organization is important as it helps in the engagement of
employees, reduces turnover, and motivates the employees within the industry.
