1 INTRODUCTION Dear Student Welcome to the module, Human Resource Management for Line Managers (HRM2605). On your journey through this dynamic module, you will soon realise how interesting the field of human resource management (HRM) is. We believe that you will congratulate yourself on having chosen this module because of its relevance in everyday life and in an organisational context. If you take a second to ponder the following, you may begin to grasp the undeniable importance of human resources (HR) in most organisations: without people to do the work, nothing can happen. We are sure that you will find this module interesting, stimulating and very valuable in practice. This tutorial letter is applicable to HRM2605 and contains information on the tutorial matter for the module; the purpose and outcomes; contact details; resources; student support services; where you will find the study material and study plan; how you will be assessed in the module and frequently asked questions. As this module is offered online, it is important that you read this tutorial letter thoroughly, keep it in a safe place and then log onto the myUnisa site for this module. Over and above the inventory letter and other items you should also access the Study @ Unisa website for more information. Because this is an online module making use of continuous assessment, you will have to use myUnisa to study and complete the assessments for this module. Visit the module site on myUnisa frequently. Also note that IMPORTANT NOTE: Since this module is offered online, you will not receive printed study material. You must access the myUnisa module site where detailed instructions are provided. We wish you every success with your studies! 2 PURPOSE AND OUTCOMES 2.1 Purpose The purpose of this module is to equip line managers and/or potential line managers with the skills, knowledge and abilities to manage human resources under their control constructively to contribute to organisational goal achievement and the HR effort as a whole. HRM2605/101/3/2022 5 2.2 Outcomes The module outcomes are those outcomes that must be achieved in order to complete the module successfully and be effective in the workplace. You will have to achieve the following broad outcomes for this module: Specific outcome 1: Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of HRM and how they relate to the duties of line managers Specific outcome 2: Demonstrate how line managers can contribute to organisational success through the implementation of different HR functions Specific outcome 3: Apply the legislative framework for managing employees in the workplace 3 CURRICULUM TRANSFORMATION Unisa has implemented a transformation charter based on five pillars and eight dimensions. In response to this charter, we have placed curriculum transformation high on the teaching and learning agenda. Curriculum transformation includes the following pillars: student-centred scholarship, the pedagogical renewal of teaching and assessment practices, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and the infusion of African epistemologies and philosophies. These pillars and their principles will be integrated at both programme and module levels as a phased-in approach. You will notice a marked change in the teaching and learning strategy implemented by Unisa, together with how the content is conceptualised in your modules. We encourage you to embrace these changes during your studies at Unisa in a responsive way within the framework of transformation. 4 LECTURER AND CONTACT DETAILS 4.1 Contacting the lecturer You may address any correspondence concerning the academic content of this module, such as enquiries about the content of an assignment, to me as your lecturer for this module.
