Factor and Remainder Theorem
Revision example with a trinomial
Ex; find the value of g (-p) + g(2p)
Given g(x)= -X2 - 3x - 1
g(-p) = -(-p)2 - 3(-p) - 1
= -P2 + 3p - 1
g(2p) = -(2p)2 - 3(2p) -1
= -4P2 - 6p -1
● ‘What's the remainder’
● If the remainder is 0 then it is a factor
● Just sub in and solve ;)
● Will be a cubic function
Example ; if f(x) is divided by ax + b (li ex s o ) then remainder will be
ax + b = 0
ax = -b
x = -b

ஃ = f (-b)
