Tyd
TYD
Rule 1: Always written as one word, except if the number ends in a
vowel, then we use a hyphen to make it easier to read:
 eenuur
 twee-uur
 drie-uur
 vieruur
 vyfuur
 sesuur
 sewe-uur
 agtuur
 nege-uur
 tienuur
 elfuur
 twaalfuur

Rule 2: If we want to say how long something takes in hours, we
write is as two words
E.g. Die reis na Durban het ses uur geneem

Rule 3: When we use mass, distance, measurements, hours and
years with a number, the noun stays singular:
E.g. 2 liter, 36 kilometer, 11 uur, 5 jaar

Rule 4: We say ure or jare if we want to emphasise the time taken
E.g. Ons het vyf lang ure in die donker gesit.

Time is written as follows:
** vm. – voormiddag (a.m.)
n.m.- namiddag (p.m.)
midnight – middernag

6:00 – sesuur
6:15 – kwart- oor-ses
6:25 – vyf-en-twintig (minute) oor ses
6:30 – halfsewe (halfway to seven)
6:45 – kwart-voor-sewe
7:00 – sewe-uur
