glands-and-exocrine-glands
EXOCRINE ENDOCRINE
Duct present. Carry secretions Secretes hormone directly into
where they are needed bloodstream.
Each gland has rich supply of
blood
Doesn’t involve blood Produce secretions which have to
be transported away from the
gland to target via the blood.
Salivary gland and sweat glands Thyroid gland and adrenal gland.
The endocrine system works in conjunction with the nervous system.
Responsible for chemical co-ordination.
Produce organic chemical messengers – hormones – proteins and fats
(sex hormones consist of fats only).
Hormones control activities of target organ but do not themselves
perform the activity. They work together as integrated system where
they stimulate or inhibit organs.
Bring about coordination and homeostasis.
Control variety of functions such as reproduction, growth and
development.
, Two co-ordinating systems:
Nervous system Endocrine system
-very fast, electrical - Slow, chemical
impulses messengers
- short duration (hormones)
- Long term effects
- only effects target - Carried via the
blood
