by step process where there are different prayers that take place prior to the actual
wedding day.

There will be an engagement where both the bride as well as bridegroom’s family
comes together and meet in order to set a date for the couple to get married this is
not an easy process as the timing has to be auspicious and their star signs will have
to be compatible, the marriage may only take place if the priest tells both the families
that it is a good and auspicious time.

The house will be decorated and adorned with lights so that it is known to be a
wedding house and so that positivity is welcomed into the wedding houses.

There are many important events that take place prior to the wedding and the first
event that had taken place in my relatives wedding was the Tilak Rites,

the groom is ready for marriage, the bride’s brother is requested to perform the ritual
as he welcomes the groom into the family by washing his feet on a special tray and
applying sacred sandal-wood paste to the groom’s forehead with his thumb
symbolizing respect, after this is done the groom is then accepted as the
bridegroom. The groom’s family also sends a tray to the bride’s family containing a
yellow sari for the bride to wear as well as other sacred symbols such as beetle leaf,
fruit and a few sticks of Haldi (Raw Turmeric). Thereafter the Matkor takes place;
