E-communication or digital commutation refers to all communication
via digital means.
Advantages and strengths of e-communication:
Easy to communicate digitally
Can communicate with anyone in the world
Can be used wherever you are and on multiple devices
Faster than conventional methods (letters)
Can save you money on travel (videoconferencing)
Cheaper than older forms of communication
Disadvantages, limitation and weaknesses of e-communication:
Depends on internet coverage and speed
Require other people to be connected digitally
Require expensive equipment
High data costs especially in SA
Hardware and software compatibility issues might occur
Requires skills and confidence
Good practices when using e-communication:
Keep time zones in mind
Keep differences in bandwidth in mind
Can easily be misinterpreted as you cannot see a person’s face
Cannot undo anything you have said or typed. Don’t act on impulse
