1 INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the module, Business Management by Portfolio (MNB2601). We trust that you will find

From the outset, we have to stress the importance of using myUnisa to study and complete the
learning activities for this module. Visit the website for MNB2601 on myUnisa frequently. The

MNB2601-21-S2 (if you are registered for the second semester).

2 PURPOSE AND OUTCOMES
2.1 Purpose
Students who have completed this module successfully will have a thorough understanding of
portfolios as important drivers of strategy (and strategy implementation specifically) in
contemporary business organisations. The module focuses on the general management principles
about the management of a business by portfolio. The planning, organising, leading and controlling
functions of a manager are applied to portfolio planning, organising, execution and control.

This module is delivered using myUnisa and the internet as well as peer group interaction.
Community engagement forms part of some of the activities. Your lecturers will interact with you on
myUnisa and via e-mail.

2.2 Outcomes
For this module, you have to master the following outcomes:
Specific outcome 1: Explain the business portfolio management framework.
Specific outcome 2: Develop business plans across all the functional areas of management and
integrate these plans to attain organisational goals and objectives.
Specific outcome 3: Develop an organisational structure across all the functional areas of
management.
Specific outcome 4: Monitor and control the performance and outputs of the Business
Management by Portfolio process.
