, Learning Unit 1
1. Reflective Practitioner
• “At night while resting on your bed waiting to sleep, your mind start thinking about
what happened since morning until then” why our mind does this; do not have the
answer but do it unconsciously and naturally. We have no control for this but I
believe the purpose is to make us aware of our actions so we can improve and move
on. Personally, I learned that it is important to know how I am doing things so I can
improve where there is need.
Reflection definition: is a thought or writing about something, particular in the past.
Checking whether things done according to plan. This is confusing but let us go back
to teaching, it is the process of thinking about how a particular topic was taught,
checking whether methods, material, assessment everything used according to plan.
Teachers expected to reflect on their practice (teaching processes). You need to
know what happened in class and reasons for those actions as well as how to resolve
and/or improve the action. Help the teachers to take charge of their own personal
and professional growth.
Tools we can use to reflect on our teaching.
A. Data Process
a. Describe what happened
b. Analyse why it happened
c. Theorize to improve your practice
d. Act to test your theory in practice.
B. Guided Reflection Protocol
a. Find meaning within everyday events
b. Make decision through considering all options and consequences.
c. Analyse your decision and identify where to improve.
C. Reflective Journal
a. It is a place to write down your daily entries.
b. Details of daily events
c. It is a personal record of student's learning experiences.
How to write or record in reflection journal?
Through the following questions;
▪ What worked well?
▪ What did not work well?
▪ What have I learned from a stressful experience?
▪ What took me by surprise?
▪ Where to improve or do differently?
▪ My proudest moment of the lesson
2. Teaching Philosophy
• It is a purposeful and reflective essay about the author’s teaching beliefs and
practices.
