BRIDGING THE DIGITAL DIVIDE

Now, in no more than a one-page Word document (aim for around 500 words),
create a new list, once again prioritizing the various gaps (factors) you would like
to address in the context of your country by explaining your view on the best
way to narrow the digital divide.

Skills and digital literacy
Skills and digital literacy however, research shows that digital divide is more
than just an access issue and cannot be alleviated merely by providing the
necessary equipment. There are at least three factors at play: Information
accessibility, information utilization receptiveness, more than just accessibility,
individuals need to know how to make use of the information and
communication tools once they exit within a community. Information
professionals have the ability to help bridge the gap by providing reference and
information services to help individuals learn and utilize the technologies to
which they do have access, regardless of the economic statics of the individual
seeking help.
EDUCATION

Education is a fundamental skill needed in order to learn and get knowledge of
other parts of life. The key reason people are behind with technology is because
they lack the knowledge and understanding. Most people in our areas are
disadvantaged and are open to a lot of ill doing which pushes them away from
learning important aspects of life(technology).
By learning we receive a set of skills that enables us to be able to use the
technology that is being introduced on a daily basis. Our youth are very
energetic and if directed to the right areas we might not face this situation at a
high rate hence our country is equipped with libraries, Wi-Fi spots and phones
which can access the internet and research relevant information.

, UNPREVILIGED FAMILIES

This also plays a major role hence the are unprivileged families who are unable
to take their children to private schools which offer great knowledge to a child.
Many of these families tend to switch their focus from taking care of their
family to drinking alcohol which impacts because now they no longer have time
for their children’s needs which automatically lacks the child’s performance
therefore a future IT technician is lost.
Technology becomes more affordable and internet access seems increasingly
ever- present, a “digital divide” between rich and poor remains. The rich and
educated are still more likely than others to have good access to digital
resources. The digital divide has especially far-reaching consequences when it
comes to education. For children in low-income school districts, inadequate
access to technology can hinder them from learning the tech skills that are
crucial to success in today’s economy.
Gender
Most African countries gender has been reflected in the lower number of women
accessing and using ICT, as compared to man.many woman an girls in our
country still do not have equal opportunities than man an boys .The girl child
doesn't seem to be part of the ICT in the African society still relegating the
woman mostly to care more about the kitchen. In rural area’s women play a
crucial role in food production and distribution? Given opportunities access to
price and product information, supply chain options for exporter and knowledge,
competitive power can be result in increased wealth an economic development

LACK OF INFTASTRUCTRE
South Africa being a clear developing country, it’s obvious, that we’re still on
the come up, building up more infrastructure in rural areas especially, will be
of much great help so that people in those area don’t feel economically
marginalised as more internet facilities will be set up. Meaning more people will
build up their knowledge to cope with the changes around them.
LANGUAGE BARRIERS
Known to us South Africa is a rainbow nation country meaning we have more
languages spoken than any other countries. English being a worldwide
recognised way of communication it’s unfortunate that the ICT is in English
,we can argue that most people who are from the lower class community have
little literacy skills making it hard for them to even take interest in the
