Question 1
The main information in the English guide document is that the curriculum aims to ensure
that all learners receive knowledge and information that will be good/ meaningful for their
lives. It allows teachers to know what the programme and promotion requirements are for
the National Curriculum Statement Grades R-12. The other main information in this guide is
the Time allocation for each phase and how much time must be spent on the English subject
for the content to be covered throughout the year. The second thing is the Language
information / language levels, home language is the first language acquired by learners.
Home language provides basic language communication. Most of the emphasis is placed on
teaching of the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills at this language level. There are
different language aims and language should enable learners to use language properly and
allow efficient communication. There other information is the different language teaching
approaches. It allows learners and teachers to prepare lessons and assignments and to
know what content need to be covered. It allows teachers to plan. It even shows the
outcome of each lesson and even shows the assessment process of the exams per term and
mark allocation. The curriculum guide even covers what content need to be covered over a
period. It even provides the learning and teaching materials and teaching plans, and it
provides explanation on the assessments to be done during class and examinations and how
much the count for towards SBA or termly mark



Question 2
The general aims of the South African Curriculum guide are that it provides learners with
knowledge and skills that will be worth in their lives. It promotes knowledge in local context
but is beneficial in global imperative. It even serves a purpose of providing learners to higher
education, with knowledge without judging their background, race or gender and giving
employers with profile of learner competencies. The National Curriculum Statement has
principles which are social transformation, all learners should have equal opportunities to
education. Active and critical learning teacher should have an act ice teaching approach
rather than the traditional approach and progression, which states that every grade has
content and context which shows progression from easy things to difficult. The national
Curriculum Statement are encouraged to produce learners that learners should use creative
and critical thinking to identify and solve problems if they are working individually or with
others they should work effectively. When organizing, planning or teaching being inclusive
should be important. This will only happen if teaching know how to address the barriers for
learning and how to plan diversity.
