QUESTION 1.1: Draft Essay (20 Marks)

Topic: The Use of Artificial Intelligence for Higher Education Students

Paragraph 1: Introduction

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a computer thing that helps people do work technology that
enables computer systems to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as
answering questions, solving problems and producing written content. AI is becoming more
common in higher education, where students use tools such as ChatGPT to support their
learning. This essay discusses the benefits and challenges of AI, the ethical issues associated
with its use, and my position on whether higher education students should use this
technology (UNESCO, 2023).

Paragraph 2: Benefits of AI

AI can help higher education students understand difficult subjects, find information and
improve their academic writing. Students can use AI tools to explain complicated concepts in
simpler language, summarise notes and practise answering questions. AI can also provide
immediate feedback and personalised learning support, which may help students identify
areas that require improvement (Kasneci et al., 2023). For example, a student who struggles
with an academic topic can ask an AI tool for another explanation.

Paragraph 3: Challenges of AI

AI is good but it can also be bad for students. Despite its benefits, AI can create challenges
for higher education students. Some students may depend too much on AI instead of
developing their own research, writing and critical-thinking skills. AI tools can also produce
incorrect information or references that do not exist. Students must therefore verify
information using reliable academic sources and avoid accepting every AI-generated answer
as correct (UNESCO, 2023).
