1.1 A teacher can promote resilience in a classroom by having a positive attitude.
Having and maintaining good relationships with their learners. Create and
develop realistic goals in the classroom for the educator and for their
students. The educator should try to avoid seeing stressful events as
unbearable problems. This will also make the environment at class relaxed.
Educators should promote and maintain a hopeful outlook, expecting good
things and visualising what you wish to achieve. (Care and Support for

1. Contact and networking with most appropriate services and resources.
An example is if the hygiene and safety regulations are in place at a school
and receive the certificates for the safety and hygiene.
2. Developing simple health policies that are able to guide and direct
activities. Create rules and have necessary practice if a child gets hurt during
an activity. Therefor an educator knows how to help that learner in a safe way.
In regard to bandaging a child cut or scratch, etc.
3. To create a safe and healthy environment for living, learning, and
working. An example is to create a safe and positive classroom environment
at school, this can be performed when the educator gets to know the
strengths and weakness or learners. This will help with an environment to be
positive.
4. To impart the necessary skills to all members of the school community.
An example is to have skills and be able to share the skills and knowledge to
staff members to create bond and teamwork within the school environment.
Therefore, ideas are shared among others and spread towards the learners to
create an interesting environment.
5. Strengthening interactions between the school and surrounding
community.
For example, schools can host functions at school therefore learners, parents
and educators come together and share their positiveness and build up
relationships with learners and children and parents. It also benefits the
community because it helps on knowing who lives within the area. (Care and

1.5.1 Individual teachers
The competencies required from individual teachers as stipulated in the SIAS
is that educators should be able to gather information and to identify the
learners at risk of learning the breakdown or dropping out of school. To
provide teacher developed classroom-based interventions to address the
support needs of certain learners.
