ASSIGNMENT 3
DUE DATE: 16 OCTOBER 2026
, PUB2601 October/November 2026
Question 1: The Importance of Logistics in Public Administration
Logistics is important in public administration because it helps make sure that essential
goods, such as medicines and medical supplies, reach hospitals and clinics. According to
Anca (2019:209), logistics involves moving goods from suppliers to an organisation and
then to the people who need them. In the public healthcare sector, this means making
sure that hospitals and clinics receive the right medicines at the right time, in good
condition, and at an affordable cost.
In South Africa, the Department of Health (DoH) uses procurement processes to buy
medicines and medical supplies, including medicines for infections and tuberculosis (TB),
as well as products used for medical tests. Good logistics and procurement management
help ensure that these supplies reach healthcare facilities on time, meet the required
quality standards, and stay within the available budget.
The Importance of Logistics in Public Administration
Logistics is important in public administration for several reasons. First, it helps
government departments deliver services efficiently. Without proper logistics, hospitals
would run out of medicines, clinics would lack equipment, and patients would suffer.
Logistics ensures that goods and services are in the right place at the right time.
