ASSIGNMENT 3
(PORTFOLIO) 2026
DUE 2 NOVEMBER 2026
ACTIVITY 1: PLAY

1. Fantasy Play
Fantasy play involves children imitating and pretending scenarios related to their everyday life
experiences. As noted in the guide, when children pretend to have a tea party or play "shop," they
explore basic principles of trade and money, mimicking their parents. In this image, the children are
dressing up as doctors, using medical tools, and acting out a medical scenario, which is a classic
example of fantasy play (EMA1501, 2018:22).

2. Physical and Locomotor Play
This type of play involves movement in and around the classroom or play area. Children need lots
of opportunity to move around by running, hopping, skipping, rolling, kicking, and jumping. The
image shows children engaged in various physical activities like riding a bicycle, kicking a soccer ball,
running, and skipping rope, which develops their gross motor skills and spatial awareness
(EMA1501, 2018:21).

3. Construction Play
Construction play involves exploration through constructing, creating, reasoning, and
problem-solving. The guide states that when a child constructs a house with blocks, they
experience how blocks look alike or different, and explore concepts like height, balance, and
estimation. The two boys in the image are building with colorful blocks, which is a perfect example
of this type of play (EMA1501, 2018:21).

4. Word Play
Through all types of play, children learn mathematical vocabulary spontaneously. They talk while
they play and ask questions, while parents or teachers provide feedback. The image shows a child
and an adult working with letters, flashcards, and educational cards, which directly supports the
development of language and mathematical vocabulary (EMA1501, 2018:22).
