, INC3701 ASSIGNMENT 6 PORTFOLIO - DUE DATE: 30 SEPTEMBER 2026
INTRODUCTION
I have always believed that the lessons that have the greatest impact are not only the ones
found in textbooks. Some lessons stay with us because of our own experiences and the
people we meet.My own experience as a learner has helped me understand the importance of
feeling accepted in a classroom. Being quiet can sometimes make a learner feel unnoticed.
This showed me that learners need more than academic support. They also need to feel that
they belong and that their voices matter.Inclusive education is about creating a learning
environment where all learners are valued and supported. It recognises that learners have
different needs, abilities, backgrounds, and experiences. Some learners may face barriers that
are easy to see, while others may experience challenges that are not immediately
visible.Teachers therefore have an important role to play in creating inclusive classrooms.
They need to understand the different needs of their learners. They also need to find ways to
remove barriers that may prevent learners from taking part in school activities. A supportive
classroom can help learners develop confidence and participate more freely. This portfolio
looks at different aspects of inclusive education. It considers the challenges that learners may
experience and the role that teachers, parents, communities, and schools can play in
providing support. It also looks at the values of Ubuntu and how these values can promote
respect, dignity, care, and belonging.Inclusive education is not only about placing different
learners in the same classroom. It is about making sure that learners are included, respected,
supported, and given meaningful opportunities to learn. As Maapola-Thobejane and Mashau
(2019) explain, inclusive education requires schools and teachers to recognise barriers to
learning and find ways to support all learners.
The topics discussed in this portfolio have helped me understand that inclusion is a shared
responsibility. Teachers cannot create inclusive schools on their own. Parents, communities,
school staff, and learners all have a role to play. A truly inclusive environment is one where
every learner is given an opportunity to participate and feel that they belong.
