The Rib Cage
The rib cage is made of 12 pair pairs of ribs, most of which
attach anteriorly to the sternum.
ALL ribs attach posteriorly to the vertebral column.
The functions of the rib cage:
• To protect the heart, lungs and it’s associated vasculature.
• To aid in respiration through expansion and contraction
• To provide a surface for attachment of respiratory muscles
• To provide an attachment for the upperlimb appendages.
