A simple and aesthetic presentation on the anatomy of the thorax and the breast which combines my love for anatomy and art. These notes were used to achieve an A+ in anatomy and have been modified over 4 years to tutor Anatomy at a University level. These notes use a combination of high-quality resources such as KenHub, TeachmeAnatomy and Osmosis in one place. You will find links to flashcards which are ideal to test your knowledge on each topic.

The Rib Cage
The rib cage is made of 12 pair pairs of ribs, most of which
attach anteriorly to the sternum.

ALL ribs attach posteriorly to the vertebral column.

The functions of the rib cage:
• To protect the heart, lungs and it’s associated vasculature.
• To aid in respiration through expansion and contraction
• To provide a surface for attachment of respiratory muscles
• To provide an attachment for the upperlimb appendages.
