ASSIGNMENT 8 PORTFOLIO SEMESTER 2
DUE DATE: OCTOBER 2026
FOR MORE ASSIGNMENTS & ASSISTANCE
WHATSAPP: 0662594903
, Introduction
The purpose of this portfolio is to look back at the ideas and questions that stood out most
clearly during this unusual module.
I began by returning to the multiple-choice questions from the Crossroads assignment. In
the section that follows I show both my original choices and my present ones, together with
short notes explaining my thinking.
After that I step back and reflect on the module as a whole, drawing out the main lessons
that remain with me.
Back at the Crossroads!
1. “ProPublica leaked IRS documents showing that in 2011, Jeff Bezos did not pay any tax.”
My personal opinion on this statement is most closely described by:
a. Taxation is basically government stealing from people so good for Bezos
b. I’m sure he didn’t break the law.
c. Wait, wasn’t he the richest man in the world in 2011?
d. What about other billionaires I wonder?
e. This is just gross injustice, and we need to do something about it.
Choice now: e
Choice in assignment 1: e
Notes:
When the richest person on the planet can legally pay nothing in federal income tax while
ordinary workers have tax deducted from every salary, the system itself is revealed as
deeply unfair. The ProPublica documents made this concrete rather than theoretical. Even
if every loophole used by Bezos was legal, the outcome still feels morally wrong because it
allows extreme wealth to sit outside the shared tax burden that funds schools, hospitals,
roads and social support. Ordinary people cannot escape tax in the same way. This
difference is not a minor technicality; it is a structural injustice that widens inequality.
