“Communication is the encoding and decoding of codes (words i.e.
languages, gestures, or actions. These codes are used by participants
(sender and receiver) to send and receive an intended message.”

1. NOISE is anything that interferes with the accurate expression or reception of a
message.
2. MESSAGE is the verbal and/or nonverbal content that must be encoded by the sender
and decoded by the receiver.
3. In an organization, information flows forward, backwards and sideways. This flow of
information is called a CHANNEL and refers to the way this information flows within the
organization.
4. SENDER is the person who initiates a message.
5. CONTEXT is the setting and situation in which communication takes place.
6. RESULT of the communication reflects how effective the communication was between
the sender and receiver.
7. FEEDBACK is a response from the receiver indicating whether a message has been
received in its intended form.
8. RECEIVER is the person to whom a message is directed.
9. MEDIUM is how the message is transmitted between a sender and a recipient. Mass
communication such as television and the Internet are popular MEDIA of
communication today.
