REVISION STRATEGIES
• Create a study group with friends/members of your tutorial group
- Work through these strategies together
- Ask each other questions – NB why?
• Look at course outline:
- Check scope of test
- Check objectives of relevant sections
- How have the concept tests and homework questions related to these
objectives?
- Are there aspects which have not been covered in tuts/lectures (self-study)?
- Create a master mind map/framework of concepts – how they link/where
they should be applied.
• Look at concept tests:
- Where did I lose marks? Why? Look at your tutor’s written feedback.
Compare your answer with solutions. Check with your tutor where you are
not clear on why.
- Note logical structure/layout, clarity of expression (these show your grasp
of the concepts and rationale behind the question).
• Look at homework + solutions:
- Compare your answer with solutions. Where did you go wrong? Why? Note
logical structure/layout, clarity of expression.
• Look at notes/textbook / accounting standards, etc.:
- Check chapter/lecture objectives for each section
- Study examples – ask why?
- Make your own study notes (mind maps which show connections) – NB
why? / Links between different aspects of textbook summaries
- Consult a different textbook from the library on the same topic to help you.
• Collect lists of vocabulary and technical terms that are important, confusing, new:
- How would you use these terms if you were writing to a client who is not an
accountant? List terms together with textbook definitions and definitions in
your own words – clarity of expression.
- What is not clear to you? Consult a different textbook from the library (for a
different way of explaining which may be easier to grasp)/the ADO.
• Note important definitions/aspects of the conceptual framework:
- Relevance? Why?

, - Links?
- Can you describe these in your own words/for an audience that is not a
professional?
• Practice questions
- consider logical structure/layout, clarity of expression.
- compare with solutions – NB why? (Why did I go wrong? what did I not
understand/ take into account? why is the solution done this way? what sort
of mistakes am I making and why: are they to do with understanding the
required, finding the relevant information, errors in calculation, not showing
my working, lack of understanding of the concept, lack of logical thinking,
…?)
• Consult ADO/lecturer if you don’t understand why.
