Assignment Number: Assignment 02
Due Date: 30 September 2026
Submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for En-
trepreneurship and Small Business Management, UNISA 2026
, UNISA | MNE3701 Funding, Customer Relationships & Product Development
Introduction
This assignment applies the small business management principles covered in MNE3701 to
a proposed venture, Tshwane Fresh Co., a small-scale cold-pressed juice and preserved-fruit
business based in Pretoria that sources produce from smallholder and peri-urban farmers around
Cullinan, Bronkhorstspruit and the Tshwane metropolitan belt and sells through farmers’ mar-
kets, a small retail outlet in Hatfield and a delivery subscription aimed at health-conscious
households and offices in the city. Three inter-related management decisions are addressed:
how the venture would be funded and why particular financing instruments are preferable to
alternatives, how customer relationships would be built and sustained, and how product de-
sign, improvement and supply chain oversight would be combined to deliver a competitive
product strategy. Throughout, South African and international real-world examples are used
to ground the analysis, consistent with Longenecker et al.’s (2023) treatment of financing, cus-
tomer relationship building and product-supply chain management as core small business func-
tions.
