, 1. Definition and differentiation between instruction and teaching, with
examples given.
There is a small but important difference between the two, since the two words
depend on each other, because you can teach almost anything, from idea to theory
such as history. Teaching can be defined as a process or an activity where the
effective learning takes place, where one person assists and enables others to seek
information, remember it, understand it, analyse it and apply it. In other words,
teaching is the stimulation of one’s thinking so that he/she can be able to manipulate
information and knowledge. On the other hand instruction is the specific process
which involves method, tools or tasks on how to do a specific thing, this can involve
a human interaction as an instructor, or non-human interaction in which a manual
or computer program can be used for detailed instructions and steps on how to do
that particular thing. Example of teaching could be learners in the classroom being
taught South African History before 1994, while one for instruction could be learners
in the workshop being instructed on how to build a table in a woodwork lesson.



2. The description of what ‘good teaching’ is to someone who is not in the
field of education.
Good teaching can also be called effective teaching, and this is when a teacher is
learner-centered rather than content-centered, this is where the teacher makes a
learner priority above all. Good teaching is when there a facilitation of the learner’s
understanding rather than just reproducing the information on the manual or
textbook to them, which will enable a learner to construct his or her own
understanding. Good teaching is about helping a learner making sense of new
information, and be able to integrate the new information with their existing ideas
and also to be aware of their thinking and learning process, and also to apply their
new understanding in meaningful and relevant ways. Mostly good teaching is to
teach a learner to be a critical thinker and solve complex problems.


3. Explanation on why teaching is about making responsible decisions for
learning.
Beside the fact that great deal is expected from a teacher as per by CAPS document,
it is imperative to understand and be aware of the responsibilities one inherits once
decide on answering the call of teaching. Effective learning can never be possible
without the teacher making responsible decision in the classroom and outside the
classroom. The teacher has a duty to analyse the situation of learners and take a
decision on what has been analysed so that the effective learning and teaching can
be possible. Teaching methods cannot just be decided haphazardly just because a
teacher feels like it, this will take time and serious considerations to the underlying
factors which will lead to that particular method to be applied, and that needs a
