explore on her own, and eventually fell below a cliff area. Underlying factors to
investigate: Potential inadequate supervision by the guide, possible insufficient

group, route risk management issues, and questions regarding the effectiveness of
the non-liability statement signed by clients.
Ms Nando left the group multiple times during the hike to explore independently.
After the group reached the overnight hut, the guide realised she was missing. Mr
HOW Khumalo went to search for her and spotted her red jacket below a cliff area. He
immediately contacted emergency services by radio, after which a helicopter rescue
was arranged. Ms Nando sustained a serious leg injury during the fall.
