Vraag 1

1) Gee drie sinonieme (dit wil sê woorde wat dieselfde beteken) vir “genre”.

Volgens my is dit ’n spesifieke literêre soort, vorm, klas of tipe wat aan sekere
genrekenmerke of konvensies voldoen soos in

(Studiegids 2026:10).

Dit is egter meer as net ’n klassifikasie stelsel; genre is ’n groot konsep wat die
verwantskappe tussen tekste beklemtoon.

, Die Meksikaanse skrywer Carlos Fuentes vergelyk tekste met ’n familie. Hy vra of enige
boek ooit heeltemal op sy eie kan bestaan en sê dat alle tekste op een of ander manier
met ander tekste verbind is. Volgens hom is tekste soos lede van ’n groot familieboom
van stories en verbeelding (Studiegids 2026:9). Net soos familielede sekere
eienskappe deel, het baie tekste ook ooreenkomste met mekaar.



Hierdie idee beteken dat tekste binne dieselfde genre sekere kenmerke gemeen het.
Hulle volg dikwels soortgelyke patrone, formules of reëls wat dit maklik maak om hulle
as deel van dieselfde genre te herken. Fowler (1982:42) verduidelik dat genres gevorm
word deur beïnvloeding, navolging en oorgeërfde kenmerke (Studiegids 2026:11).



Genres bly egter nie altyd dieselfde nie. Hulle verander en ontwikkel met verloop van
tyd wanneer skrywers nuwe idees byvoeg of bestaande reëls verander. Daarom is
genres nie vaste kategorieë nie, maar iets wat groei en aanpas. Verskillende genres
kan ook met mekaar meng en nuwe vorme skep.
