ASSIGNMENT 2 2026
UNIQUE NO.
DUE DATE: 24 JUNE 2026
, ALTERNATIVE ANALYSIS
QUESTION 1: HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION
Grade 9 History: Apartheid in South Africa
Human rights education aims to promote dignity, equality, respect, and social justice. If
learners make discriminatory comments about race and culture during a lesson on
Apartheid, I would address the situation immediately in a respectful and educational
manner. I would explain that discriminatory language violates the rights and dignity of
others and is contrary to the values protected by the South African Constitution.
Two democratic values that I would promote are equality and respect for diversity.
Equality teaches learners that all people have the same rights regardless of race,
culture, language, or background. Respect for diversity encourages learners to
appreciate and value the differences that exist among people in society.
One strategy I would use to encourage inclusivity and respect is a guided classroom
discussion. During the discussion, learners would be encouraged to express their
views respectfully while listening to the opinions of others. Ground rules for respectful
communication would be established to ensure that everyone feels safe and valued.
Practical Classroom Activity: “Walking in Someone Else’s Shoes”
What the teacher will do:
Provide learners with short case studies describing experiences of discrimination
during Apartheid.
Facilitate a discussion about how discrimination affects individuals and
