• Repetitive actions are performed faster and with the same effort

THE COMPUTER
Computers take input (from mouse/keyboard), do something with it (processing), and give
output on screen
THE POWER OF A COMPUTER IS DETERMINED BY:
• CPU power
• Amount of storage space and the type (HDD/SSD)
• Type of graphics card
PORTABLE COMPUTERS
LAPTOPS
• Use smaller components for lower power consumption and use battery power
• More expensive than desktop computer for the same specification
• Power consumption settings to manage power consumption
TABLETS
• Pen-sensitive screen that you can use with your finger
• Ideal for quick, small-scale computing
• Mobile operating systems and batteries live longer than laptops
Phablet:
• Cell phones with a screen size larger than 5 inches
• Tablet functions but can make calls
, Hybrid laptop/tablets:
• Touchscreen with scanners
• Screen can rotate 360 and lie flat/ the screen can be removed
• More powerful than conventional tablets and includes full desktop operating system
• CONS: weighs more, shorter battery life, usually no built-in cellular communication

• Is an example of convergence because a phone combines the features and technology of
a wide variety of devices

• A generator can be used, but if the power suddenly goes out, work will be lost/data on
the hard drive may become corrupted.
