Analyse the information in the class summary. What are your learners’ strengths and weaknesses?
Note:
Fill in the table. You should cover all learners.

Student Strengths Weaknesses
Ana Reading Skills (7.0) Listening Skills (5.5)
Bilal Reading Skills (7.0) Speaking Skills (6.0)
Chen Reading Skills (7.0) Speaking Skills (5.5)
Delphine Reading Skills (6.0) Writing Skills (5.0)
Mihai Reading Skills (7.0) Writing Skills (5.5)
Francesca Reading Skills (6.0) Listening Skills (5.0)

The class summary shows that all students are strongest in reading, with the average band being 6.7, with most achieving band 6.0 or
above in this skill. Listening is generally good, though Ana and Francesca have lower scores in this area. The weakest areas are
speaking (average 5.9) and writing (average 5.8), which are below the level required for their target bands. Delphine has the lowest
writing score in the group (5.0), while Chen has the weakest speaking score (5.5). Ana and Francesca also show lower listening ability,
with scores of 5.5 and 5.0. To achieve their target IELTS bands, all learners need to improve by 0.5 to 1.5 points, with Mihai and Bilal
needing the largest gains (1.5 bands each) to reach 7.5. Overall, the priority should be developing writing and speaking, as these are the
most common weaknesses holding students back. These areas should therefore be the main focus to help students close the gap to their
required IELTS bands.

Note: Table: Put in bold a part of the exam you will focus on for each of two skills (100-150 words).
E.g., Listening test: section 1, speaking test: part 2

Which two skills have you chosen to teach in this lesson? Why?

For this lesson, I have chosen to focus on Speaking and Writing, as these are the weakest skills for the group according to the class
summary. Focusing on these skills will help students improve the most and close the gap to their required IELTS bands. In Speaking, I
will focus on Part 2, because it tests students’ ability to give a long, organized response, which is a weakness for several learners. In
Writing, I will focus on Task 2, as it is the most challenging productive skill in IELTS Academic. It requires students to plan, organize, and
develop ideas using correct academic vocabulary and linking words. By working on these two skills, the lesson directly targets the
students’ main weaknesses and helps them move closer to their target scores.

Which lesson topic have you chosen? Why? (100-150 words)

I have chosen the topic Education because it is relevant to the students’ goals and interests. Some of the learners want to study or
continue their education abroad, so discussing education is meaningful and engaging for them. Education is also a common topic in the
IELTS exam, so practicing it will help students prepare for the test. This topic allows them to use academic vocabulary and linking words
to explain their ideas clearly. Using a familiar and motivating topic helps students participate more actively in both Speaking and Writing
tasks. In Speaking Part 2, they can talk about their experiences with teachers, learning, or school systems, which makes it easier to give
detailed responses. In Writing Task 2, it allows them to develop arguments, provide examples, and express opinions effectively. This
topic makes the lesson practical, interesting, and useful for IELTS preparation.
