Where Do I Fit In?

1. Introduction

Throughout this course, I have spent considerable time observing and
reflecting on the lives, decisions, and moral choices of others—from
influential figures like Patrice Motsepe, whose business and
philanthropic endeavors have impacted communities, to global
personalities such as Elon Musk, who push the boundaries of
innovation. I have also considered the experiences of ordinary people,
such as South Africans living below the food poverty line, and how their
circumstances shape daily choices. These reflections have been
insightful, providing a lens through which to understand the broader
social, economic, and ethical dynamics of the world around me.

However, this assessment challenges me to shift the focus inward, to
examine not the virtues or failures of others, but my own actions,
character, and moral development. It asks a question that is often
overlooked: “Where do I fit in?” This is not just a matter of identifying
my role in society, but also understanding how my personal virtues or
lack thereof guide my interactions, choices, and contributions to the
communities I belong to.

In this reflection, I have explore my personal virtues, identify areas
where I can grow, and consider how I fit into my social and community
circles. By using the framework of virtue ethics, which emphasizes the
development of good character traits and moral virtues, I aim to
understand not only what I do, but also who I am striving to become.
This process of self-examination allows me to critically analyze my
behavior, recognize patterns in my decision-making, and intentionally
