Question 1

1.1.1 Essential element

An essential element in plant nutrition is a chemical element that a plant must
obtain in order to grow, develop, and complete its life cycle. Without this
element, the plant cannot perform vital physiological processes such as
photosynthesis, enzyme activity, or cell formation. Essential elements cannot be
substituted by another element, and their absence results in specific deficiency
symptoms and abnormal growth in plants.

Development. 6th ed. Sunderland: Sinauer Associates.

1.1.2 Carbon partitioning

Carbon partitioning refers to the process by which plants distribute carbon
compounds, mainly produced during photosynthesis, to different parts of the
plant. After carbon is fixed in the leaves, it is transported in the form of sugars to
various organs such as roots, stems, fruits, and seeds where it is used for growth,
respiration, or storage. This process helps regulate plant development and
ensures that energy and nutrients are supplied to tissues that require them most.
